Crime Stoppers

Crime Stoppers is part of the Calgary Police Service Security Operations Unit.

The Calgary Crime Stoppers Association was formed in 1982 and was the first Crime Stoppers program in Canada. The longstanding relationship with the Calgary Police Service is integral to the investigation of crimes, and the recovery of stolen property and illegal narcotics. Crime Stoppers affords citizens the opportunity to leave anonymous tips regarding crime or suspicious activity in their neighbourhood. These tips are forwarded to law enforcement for investigation.

The Calgary Police Service enlists a police officer to act as liaison between Crime Stoppers and police services in and around the Calgary area. This officer ensures anonymous tips are handled by appropriate investigative units, and that successful tips are brought to the attention of the Crime Stoppers Board for a reward determination. In addition, this officer assists with the production of weekly crime re-enactments, and the updating of information for the Calgary Crime Stoppers website at www.calgarycrimestoppers.org
