Youth Education Programs

The Calgary Police Service strongly believes that early education is important for child and youth development.  As a result, the Calgary Police Service has launched a collaborative pilot initiative between the Calgary Police Service, the Calgary Board of Education, the Calgary Catholic School District and Mount Royal University Centre for Child Development called the “Start Smart, Stay Safe (S4)” Program

The Start Smart Stay Safe program is a strength-based approach utilized by police officers, teachers, and schools in building resiliency and capacity in children and their families.  This proactive delivery model aims to build skills and knowledge that support students in successfully navigating through challenging situations like bullying, cyber-safety, and pressure to engage in substance abuse or high-risk behaviours.  These goals are supported through proactive messaging, activities, and fostering of positive relationships between police officers, the school community, and families.  The Start Smart Stay Safe initiative is a collaborative approach in moving education and law enforcement toward a strengths-based model of responsible citizenship.

The S4 program is currently being piloted in 15 schools in the Calgary area.  The long-term vision for the program is to see all Calgary schools included in the initiative starting in the 2013 school year.

At this time the majority of our resources are dedicated to this pilot project.  Please be aware that all presentation requests will be considered as long as it does not interfere with the S4 pilot project teaching schedule.

You will be contacted directly if a Youth Education Facilitator is able to assist with your request.

If you do not get a response within 5 business days then please note that we are unable to assist you at this time.

Your request may be forwarded to a specific subject matter expert/organization to see if they will be available to assist you.

Please consider contacting your area Community Liaison Officer (CLO) at your nearest Calgary Police Service District office for assistance with your request.

Thank you again for your interest in having the Calgary Police Service be part of your event.

Schools can request presentations by emailing cpsschoolpresentations@calgarypolice.ca
