Safe Driving Seminars: "Safe Driving to Save Lives"
Vehicle collisions in Alberta cost the local economy approximately $4 billion a year and are the leading cause of on-the-job injuries and death in the province. Since January 2009, traffic officers have given over 100 "Safe Driving to Save Lives" seminars to local businesses across the city in an attempt to promote a safe driving culture and help reduce work-related collisions.
Nearly 400 people are killed and more than 27,000 injured in vehicle collisions in Alberta each year. General bad driving habits are recognized as leading causes of these collisions.
The two-hour, free of charge, interactive seminar covers a wide variety of associated topics and can be done in-house. It is suitable for all audiences ranging from organizations that have no traffic safety training in place, through to those that already have health and safety programs but are looking to enhance their training free of charge.
Stars from the Calgary Flames, Stampeders and Roughnecks have all added their voice to the campaign and have produced videos that are included in the seminars. A DVD of these messages is available at the Traffic Unit.
To book a free seminar, or find out more about them, please call the Calgary Police Service Traffic Education Unit at 403-567-4042.
