Serving our diverse community

We are committed to treating everyone with:

  • Compassion (care)
  • Dignity (decency)
  • Respect (courtesy)
  • Fairness (impartiality)

Our priority is the health and safety of the public, arrestees, and our employees.

Statement of Care

The Statement of Care outlines the rights, procedures and standards of care provided to individuals who are arrested and detained by the Calgary Police Service.

The Statement of Care is available in multiple languages to help ensure understanding for all individuals.

Social, Mental Health and Addiction Referral Team (SMART)

The Social, Mental Health and Addiction Referral Team (SMART) operates out of the Arrest Processing Unit to provide detainees with an opportunity to connect with, or be referred to, appropriate social, mental health and addiction supports.

SMART is made up of:

  • A Calgary Police Service officer
  • Advanced care paramedics
  • Mental health clinicians
  • Commissionaires

SMART uses a new approach to support vulnerable and at-risk individuals by connecting them with necessary resources in the community.

Participation in the program is voluntary. Clients of SMART are individuals who have self-identified, or who have been identified, as experiencing barriers to social, mental health and addiction supports.

Referrals are completed by the Arrest Processing Unit on-site paramedic.
We do not currently accept referrals from external agencies.
