On June 11, 2025, the new Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) came into force replacing the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Additional updates regarding the processing of Access Requests under the ATIA, will be posted to this page, please check back regularly.
What does this mean for you: all access to information requests received on or after June 11, 2025, will be processed in accordance with the new ATIA.
The ATIA provides public accountability through a right of access to records under the control of a public body. For more information on the ATIA please visit The Government of Alberta’s website About Access to Information Act (ATIA) | Alberta.ca
Access to Information requests
To submit an access to information request to the Calgary Police Service, please read the following instructions carefully and provide us with all necessary documents to avoid delays in processing your request.
1
If you are looking to access personal information regarding yourself, you must complete the form and send a copy of the form, a copy of your government issued photo ID AND a ‘selfie’ of you holding your ID for verification purposes. You may also attend a district office with your completed form and have an officer at the front counter verify your ID on the form. They will then forward the verified form to our office. Once we have received your completed form and verified identification, processing of your request will begin.
2
If you are accessing personal information of another individual other than yourself, you must also provide written proof of authorization (ie. signed consent, guardianship, power of attorney, executorship, etc.). Once we receive your completed form along with the authorization processing of your request will begin.
3
Accessing general information requires a $25.00 initial fee. Payment can be made over the phone by contacting 403-428-8484, via cheque or money order made out to the Calgary Police Service, or by visiting the front counter at Calgary Police Headquarters at the West Winds Campus at 5111 – 47 Street N.E. Once we receive your completed access request form and payment we will begin to process your payment. Please ensure that your contact information on the form is up do date so we can reach you during the day. Please also indicate on your form if a message can be left. It the message is not verified to you, a message will not be left.

Currently our office is experiencing a large backlog in requests. We are currently implementing measures to address this backlog as quickly as we can.
Due to the higher-than-normal volume of access requests and phone calls, there may be a delay in responding to you. Once you have submitted your request to us, we will process it in the order that it was received. An acknowledgement letter will be sent to you once the request has been opened, or we will contact you should additional information be required.
Should you have any additional questions, please contact our office at 403-428-8484. When leaving a voicemail, please advise if we can leave a message on your phone.
Note: our call back number to you will show as a private number.
