The Calgary Police Service (CPS) utilizes volunteers to help with a variety of programs. Opportunities are with the district offices, Victim Assistance Support Team, YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre and PowerPlay.
Volunteer requirements
Volunteers must meet the following requirements:
- must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- must have Canadian citizenship or legal permanent status
- must have no unpardoned criminal convictions
- must have no criminal charges pending before the courts
- must complete and pass an Enhanced Security Clearance Declaration
- must be willing to give a one-year commitment
- must be able to volunteer three to five hours per week
- must possess the necessary written and verbal communication skills to perform the varied tasks
Volunteer programs
We recruit for the following volunteer positions:
District offices
Volunteers in district offices usually live in the community in which the office is located. These volunteers assist with the subpoena and phoning program.
Power Play
Our Power Play youth hockey and soccer programs thrive thanks to volunteers who want to make a positive difference in the lives of young athletes. No formal coaching background is required – just reliability, enthusiasm, and a willingness to support kids as they learn and grown.
What volunteers do:
- Commit to one day per week for about two hours
- Support youth aged seven to 17 in a fun and inclusive environmentHelp with basic skill development, mentoring and team activities
- Serve as a positive role model on and off the ice/field
Hockey program (September - March; Wednesdays from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.)
- Assist with skating, fundamental hockey skills and game play
- Encourage teamwork, confidence and sportsmanship
- No prior coaching or skating experience required
Soccer program (May – August; Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.)
- Help youth develop fundamental soccer skills, including ball control, passing and movement
- Support teamwork, cooperation and positive play
- Assist with drills, small-sided games and confidence-building activities
- Open to volunteers of all experienced levels

Victim Assistance Support Team
Volunteer victim support workers assist victims of crime and misfortune with support, information and referral services. Support is offered in the form of court accompaniment, assistance with restitution request applications and other services, and providing information about court dates and police and court procedures.

YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre
Think police work is interesting? Enjoy teaching kids and families? Passionate about forensics or history? In that case, consider joining the YouthLink Team as a volunteer museum facilitator!
YouthLink is a one-of-a-kind, hands-on museum filled with powerful immersive exhibits and Alberta’s largest collection of policing artifacts ever placed on public display.
As a museum facilitator, you will engage with visitors, help answer questions and be involved in delivering several hands-on presentations and public programming activities related to forensics, CPS history and crime prevention. This role requires top-notch customer service, strong communication skills, and an interest in communicating the role of Calgary’s police in our communities – both in the past and present. We are looking for friendly, natural storytellers who are committed to creating quality experiences for all our visitors.
YouthLink is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays from September to June, and Tuesday to Saturday in July and August. We are interested in applicants who can lend their talents during operating hours.
