The Social, Mental Health and Addiction Resource Team (SMART) operates out of the Arrest Processing Unit to provide detainees with an opportunity to connect with, or be referred to, appropriate social, mental health and addiction supports.
SMART is made up of:
- A Calgary Police Service officer
- Advanced care paramedics
- Mental health clinicians
- Commissionaires
SMART uses a new approach to support vulnerable and at-risk individuals by connecting them with necessary resources in the community.
Participation in the program is voluntary. Clients of SMART are individuals who have self-identified, or who have been identified, as experiencing barriers to social, mental health and addiction supports.
Referrals are completed by the Arrest Processing Unit on-site paramedic.
We do not currently accept referrals from external agencies.
