The Social Mental Health Addiction Resource Team (S.M.A.R.T.) operates out of the Calgary Police Service Arrest Processing Section (APS) and provide individuals with an opportunity to connect with appropriate social, medical, mental health and addiction supports.
S.M.A.R.T. is comprised of:
- A Calgary Police Service officer
- Advanced care paramedics from Calian
- Mental health clinicians from Recovery Alberta
- Arrest Processing officers from Commissionaires
SMART uses a new approach to support vulnerable and at-risk individuals by connecting them with necessary resources in the community.
Participation in the program is voluntary. Clients of SMART are individuals who have self-identified, or who have been identified, as experiencing barriers to social, mental health and addiction supports.
Referrals are completed by the Arrest Processing Unit on-site paramedic.
We do not currently accept referrals from external agencies.
