The Calgary Police Service is committed to fostering inclusive, respectful and safe communities. The Diversity Resource Team plays a vital role in building bridges between the CPS and Calgary’s diverse population, ensuring that all members of our community feel seen, heard and supported.
Our Commitment to Diversity
Calgary is home to a range of cultural, ethnic, religious and social communities. Through proactive engagement, education and collaboration, the Diversity Resource Team works to:
- Promote mutual understanding and trust between police and community members
- Address issues of bias, discrimination and hate
- Support newcomers in understanding Canadian laws and police procedures
- Provide culturally informed support during investigations and community events
Diversity Resource Team portfolios
To better serve Calgary’s community, the CPS has established dedicated portfolios that focus on key diverse groups. Each portfolio is supported by a sworn liaison officer and an advisory board, and, in some cases, a civilian community mobilizer.
The Diversity Resource Team portfolios include:
- Africa
- Caribbean
- Latin America
- Middle East
- Europe
- South Asia
- Asia
- Gender and Sexual Diversity
- Persons with Disabilities
Each portfolio is designed to reflect the unique needs, values and concerns of the community it represents. Liaison officers and community mobilizers work closely with community leaders, organizations and residents to foster open communication, provide education and promote inclusion.
Education and Outreach
The CPS offers a variety of educational programs, including:
- Diversity education presentations – Tailored sessions for community, law enforcement and first responders.
- Hate/bias presentations – One- to three-hour presentations for senior high school students, designed to empower youth to recognize and respond to issues of hate, bias and discrimination.
- You and the Law – A workshop for newcomers to learn about Canadian law and policing.
