Anyone who has an alarm in their residence or commercial property is considered an alarm user and is required to have an alarm permit.
Alarm Permit Online Portal
The Calgary Police Alarm Bylaw Team is pleased to continue the successful use of our False Alarm Management System (FAMS), an online portal launched in 2021 for alarm companies and for Calgarians who have an alarm system in their home or business.
Alarm Users
Alarm users can use the online portal to:
- Apply for a new permit
- Update permit information
- Renew a permit
- Pay for a new or renewed permit
Note: Permit renewal fees can be paid without creating a username if your information has not changed.
Alarm Companies
Alarm companies can use the online portal to:
- Access new alarm company registration form
- Update alarm company information
- Update registered permit holder account statuses
- Pay false alarm penalties
To better serve Calgarians, our alarm user online portal offers an English – Accessibility option for vision impairment, and is offered in 10 languages:

Permit renewal
Alarm permit holders receive a renewal invoice annually, sent to the email on file at least 30 days before the renewal date. If no email is provided, the notice will be mailed.
Permit holders are responsible for keeping their contact details and business hours (for commercial, financial, or school permits) up to date. Updates can be made:
- Online
- By mail: send changes to the address below
- By email: alarmbylaw@calgarypolice.ca
- In person: Visit Police Headquarters during listed hours or drop off written updates at any district office, addressed to the Alarm Bylaw Team (Mail Code 609)
