Workplace Census

The 2022 CPS Workplace Census was conducted in November 2022 by independent research company, Leger.

The Census covers aspects of self-identification, including work area, length of time at CPS, gender identity, sexual orientation, education, indigeneity, race, disability (visible and invisible), belief system, and language. These questions align with information collected during the previous CPS Workplace Census, conducted in 2017, and questions found on the federal census. Many questions used the “prefer not to answer” option available to ensure comfort and choice in answering.

Census information will help the CPS understand the unique and intersecting identities of people within the Service and make sure the CPS is supporting the workforce with the right policies and processes. Census data also allows the CPS to understand the representation that exists in the Service and how it reflects the community.

The Calgary Police Service conducted its first workplace census in 2017. Individual census results were seen by the University of Calgary, with a final report being presented to CPS. The detailed final report is also available for review.

This census gives us an understanding of who works here – identity, roles, responsibilities outside of work and the time commitments our employees have, ensuring we plan and provide the supports they need. The census provides us with a baseline of information that we will use to delve further as we continue to meet the needs of our employees. We have a diverse workforce – across age, gender, race, education and the census reflects our ongoing commitment to represent the community we serve.
